David de Gea’s Sharp Turn: What Does the Future Have In Store for Him?

The goalkeeper seriously considered retiring when he left Manchester United last year, but now he is tempted to return to playing.

Secrecy has surrounded David de Gea since he left Manchester United last summer. The Spanish international, who has been without a team since then, has chosen to stay in the background. Very little has been revealed about his life, both public and private.

He has not lacked offers to ‘put the gloves back on.’ He has rejected many. A lot. The reason is simple: the proposals he received were not enticing enough.

The reigning Premier League Golden Glove winner – the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets – felt that some did not match his ‘status’ (in sporting terms).

Money has not been his main motivation. Indeed, he has received exorbitant offers, financially speaking, from Saudi Arabia, but the prospect of moving to the Middle East did not appeal to him.

In contrast, other more attractive possibilities – strongly linked in the summer with Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – did not materialize.

The truth is that, as Marca has learned, De Gea has clicked. A few weeks ago, the goalkeeper was seriously considering retirement. Now, however, he’s been bitten by the bug and is back on the market.

His return now seems closer than ever. In fact, the former Atlético Madrid and Manchester United player has begun getting back in shape. His latest video on Instagram, working out at the facilities of Altrincham FC, a fifth-division English club, has gone viral.

“We remember. We rebuild. We come back stronger,” he declared, indicating his intentions. De Gea is back.
