The French star has informed that he will leave Parc des Princes, and the Parisian club has several stars on its list in their search for a replacement.
It seemed that Kylian Mbappé would be one of the few one-club football players. In reality, it was a utopian dream for Paris Saint-Germain fans. Sooner or later, the departure of the forward was almost inevitable.
The French star will be free from June and is available to negotiate with any club in the world. In fact, everything points to Real Madrid acquiring him. After months of uncertainty about his future, Mbappé informed PSG’s board what they never wanted to hear in February, according to L’Equipe.
Given this situation, the Parisian club will have to spend a large sum of money to fill the gap left by the 25-year-old Frenchman.
According to The Athletic, all signs point to Victor Osimhen, the Napoli striker, as the main target. The 25-year-old Nigerian forward is the candidate to strengthen Luis Enrique’s front line, following his successful stint at the Italian club, where he was one of the main figures in winning the Scudetto after 32 years.
However, there are difficulties for PSG. Osimhen has just renewed his contract with the Azzurri, until June 2026, becoming the highest-paid player in Serie A and raising his release clause to 120 million euros. Considering that the Parisian entity will not earn a penny from Mbappé’s departure, the amount to be disbursed could be quite high.
If Plan A doesn’t work out, PSG also has a Plan B: Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian footballer, who has been on the French club’s radar for some time, will end his contract with Liverpool in June 2025.
The possibility of convincing the Reds to sell the Pharaoh, given the chance that he could leave for free, is a significant option to consider. However, Al-Ittihad from Saudi Arabia also appears as an alternative on the player’s horizon.
Plan C is Rafael Leao. The skill and potential of the Portuguese winger are qualities that captivate Luis Enrique. However, to pry him away from Milan, PSG would need to pay a fee close to 175 million euros. It is not an easy situation: in the past, the club has been audited by UEFA for similar transactions (222 million for Neymar and 180 million for Mbappé).
It seems that all paths in the search for a replacement for Mbappé, instead of leading to Rome, veer towards Napoli. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for the Azzurri to cash in on the Nigerian, who was bought for 75 million euros from Lille and who has performed so well.
