When selecting his choice for football’s greatest manager of all time, the Liverpool icon did not choose either Jurgen Klopp or Pep Guardiola for the premier position.

Jamie Carragher has revealed his pick for the greatest football manager of all time, notably leaving out Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp from the highest honor.

As a staunch supporter of Klopp’s work at Liverpool, Carragher hopes to see the German clinch another Premier League title with the team before his departure at season’s end.

Nonetheless, Carragher suggests that even if Liverpool were to surpass Manchester City and Arsenal in the title race this season, it might not elevate Klopp in his personal managerial rankings.

Alongside Arsenal legend and France World Cup winner Thierry Henry, Carragher evaluated a mix of current and retired managers in a “Winner stays on” segment for Sky Sports. He initially chose Fabio Capello over Rafa Benitez, who led Liverpool to a Champions League victory in 2005.

Capello then was deemed less favorable compared to Vicente del Bosque, the ex-Spain manager responsible for leading the national team to World Cup and European Championship victories in 2010 and 2012.

Carragher next preferred Jose Mourinho over Del Bosque, and even ranked Mourinho higher than Arsene Wenger, despite the intense rivalry the two shared during Mourinho’s time at Chelsea.

Faced with a tougher decision between Carlo Ancelotti and Mourinho, Carragher chose Mourinho due to his European achievements with Porto and Inter Milan, but Mourinho’s reign came to an end as Carragher selected Johan Cruyff, citing:

“I’m going to go with Cruyff. I don’t necessarily think he’s had more success in his career, but I think Cruyff is that unique in what he built at Barcelona is still getting spoke about now a philosophy put into the club and for me Johan Cruyff is the most important person ever in football,” he said, according to Daily Mail.
