Speculation swirled around the former football player, who’s behind bars in Spain.
Social media was abuzz on Saturday night following reports by an alleged journalist in Brazil, Paulo Albuquerque, suggesting that Dani Alves might have committed suicide in the jail where he’s currently held.
Confirming the accuracy of these reports proved challenging, given the uncertainty of how such information could be obtained while the ex-player is detained in Barcelona. Dani Alves briefly dominated the trending topics on X, previously known as Twitter, in Spain.
It was Ney Alves, the brother of the ex-Brazilian soccer star, who took to his social media to debunk the rumors and criticize those spreading falsehoods online.
“How heartless people can be. He was already judged based on a woman’s account of what happened in a men’s restroom, where only the two of them truly know what occurred. He’s already faced judgement; isn’t that punishment enough?” expressed the soccer player’s brother, sharing a photo of them together.
Alves was convicted by a Spanish court for raping a woman in a Barcelona nightclub.
Ney Alves also shared further updates about his brother’s situation in jail, offering reassurance to worried fans who had believed the rumor.
“It’s not true. Now, the madness escalates to wishing him dead. How can people be so heartless?” he added. “My father is beyond 70. My mother, over 60. Don’t they have a family too? Yet, these sites continue to circulate such rumors,” he lamented.
