Manchester City has reportedly found the player they want to replace Kevin De Bruyne, when he leaves the English club.
Kevin De Bruyne has been a tremendous success since joining Pep Guardiola’s squad.
He has won five Premier League titles, the FA Cup twice, the Champions League last season, and has been named the Premier League Player of the Year twice.
Thus, replacing the Belgian playmaker will be challenging after nearly a decade at the club, but The Cityzens are set to try.
According to the German sports newspaper BILD, they have found a replacement. The club plans to pursue a transfer for Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle.
The Spanish sports newspaper AS previously reported that City intends to activate Guimarães’ release clause of 99 million pounds.
BILD notes the similarities between Bruno Guimarães and Kevin de Bruyne.
It’s conceivable that Guimarães would play slightly deeper in the midfield, in a role next to Rodri behind creative players like Phil Foden or Bernardo Silva.
Lucas Paqueta from West Ham is also a player recently rumored to be heading to Manchester City.
According to Transfermarkt, Bruno Guimarães has a market value of 85 million euros. The Brazilian midfielder has a contract with The Magpies until the summer of 2028.
There has been a flurry of rumors about De Bruyne, whose contract with City runs until the summer of 2025. Among these rumors, there’s talk that he could be sold as early as this summer.
Several Saudi Arabian clubs are reportedly ready to offer him a princely sum to continue his career in the Saudi Pro League. However, as of now, it seems unlikely that the 32-year-old Belgian will accept such an offer.
