Boxer Devin Haney has requested to be awarded the victory for the fight against Ryan Garcia, as he wants him to be disqualified.
American boxer Devin Haney has requested that the New York State Athletic Commission award him the victory by disqualification over Ryan Garcia if the B sample from the drug test comes back positive, according to Solo Boxeo.
It’s worth noting that Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney against all odds, but days after the fight, it was revealed that Garcia had tested positive for Ostarine in a pre-fight drug test. The confirmation of the positive result is pending a second test on May 22, and if confirmed, the fight would be declared a no contest.
Haney believes it would be unfair for the fight to be declared a no contest. He argues that Garcia already had an advantage by intentionally not making weight and coming in heavier, combined with the presence of Ostarine in his system, and thus believes that his record should reflect a “victory by disqualification” for Garcia.
Ryan Garcia admits he intentionally missed weight and willingly paid a $1.5 million fine. However, he asserts that he never took any performance-enhancing substances and that the presence of Ostarine is a mistake.
If the positive result of the B sample is confirmed on May 22, Garcia would be stripped of his victory and face a lengthy suspension. Despite Haney’s request, it is usual for the fight to be declared a no contest.
