Wayne Rooney Reacts After Yet Another United Loss: “A Huge Insult”

Criticism is pouring in against both coach Erik ten Hag and Manchester United’s squad after they lost 0-1 at home to Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

After the loss, United is in 8th place, which would be the club’s worst finish in the Premier League if they end the season there.

The home defeat also became historic in that it set a club record for the most home losses in a season. Sunday’s debacle was the Red Devils’ 9th at Old Trafford this season.

“When you lose games in that way, big questions will be asked. I think the players need to reflect on themselves. When you have a manager talking about attitudes and players who shouldn’t be playing for Manchester United, it’s a huge insult,” said club legend Wayne Rooney to Sky Sports after the game.

“If my coach had said that to me, I would have never let it continue until the end of the season,” he continued.

Rooney, who won the Premier League five times with United, believes that players are not showing that they want to play for Ten Hag and thinks that some in the squad are just trying to get to the end of the season.

“I feel for him, but it’s his job to ensure the players are in form. I hope they give Ten Hag time,” said Rooney.

Asked if he thinks the players are performing for Ten Hag, Rooney is harsh in his criticism:

“The performances are far below par, despite there being some very good players in that squad,” the United legend said.

Ten Hag described the 0-4 loss to Crystal Palace earlier in the week as embarrassing to the supporters.

“Today we gave something back to them. That should be the standard,” the Dutch manager said, according to Norwegian TV 2.

“Attitude. It always starts with the right attitude. That’s what we need to build during the week. On match day you have to be one hundred percent. Today we did that (had the right attitudes),” the Dutchman said after the game.
