Novak Djokovic is “a bit worried” after his early elimination at the tournament in Rome. Two days after getting hit on the head with a water bottle, he lost in the third round to Chilean Alejandro Tabilo.
“It felt on the court as if another player was in my shoes,” said Djokovic. The world number one stated that he will undergo scans to “see what’s going on.”
The 36-year-old Djokovic was hit on the head by a bottle that fell from the stands after his match against Frenchman Corentin Moutet on Friday. The 24-time Grand Slam winner seemed fine later and even arrived jokingly wearing a helmet for his training on Saturday.
After his loss to Tabilo (2-6, 3-6), Djokovic revealed that he had suffered from headaches, nausea, and dizziness on Friday evening.
“The practice was different,” he reflected. “I didn’t feel anything, but I also didn’t feel the same.”
“Today, under great pressure, it was pretty bad. Not in terms of pain, but in terms of balance. Just no coordination. A completely different player than two days ago.”
Djokovic will undergo medical examinations before the start of Roland Garros. The Serbian won the Grand Slam tournament in Paris, which begins on May 26, last year. He also claimed the title in 2016 and 2021.
It is not known whether he plans to announce anything about his condition ahead of the major Grand Slam tournament in Paris later this month.
Before this season started, Djokovic was very open about his ambitions. He made it clear that he aimed to win all four Grand Slam tournaments as well as an Olympic gold medal. However, since he was knocked out in the semifinals of the Australian Open, this will not become a reality.
