Max Verstappen was defeated on the track for the first time in a long while in Miami. Even though Verstappen is the dominant driver, according to Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali, it is certainly not boring.
Max Verstappen is currently enjoying a highly dominant period in Formula 1. In 2022, he finished off the podium only three times when he completed a race, and last year he won 19 out of 22 races, missing out on three Grand Prix victories.
This season, the Dutchman is also making strong progress with four wins in six races, although he had to acknowledge the superior performance of McLaren driver Lando Norris in Miami.
It was the first time since last year’s Singapore Grand Prix that the Dutchman was defeated on the track. However, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali is not worried about the sport’s popularity possibly declining due to Verstappen’s dominance.
“I think very few people find F1 boring. Events are sold out all over the world and the numbers are growing,” Domenicali told ESPN SportsCenter.
“The fans should continue to focus on our sport because big things are happening. All the cars are very competitive, and anything can happen at any moment. So I advise them to stick with us,” the head of motorsport’s premier class advises.
“Besides, throughout the history of the sport, Formula 1 has experienced periods when we had great drivers who won year after year, one after the other, but this is not a factor that causes people to lose interest.”
He also comments on Max Verstappen. “If there are too many drivers winning, then you are not able to defeat the legend. We must respect that Max has been the best driver so far. And perhaps soon someone will come along to take his place,” Domenicali concludes.
