Red Bull’s super brain Adrian Newey is taking off. But where to? Ferrari, Aston Martin, or Mercedes? A hot rumor was brewing in Miami.

Could the star designer land with a surprise team? Apparently, Williams is also vying for the services of the Brit. Newey previously worked for the traditional team from 1991 to 1997.

He designed, among others, the FW14B, which secured Nigel Mansell the World Championship in 1992.

Williams and Newey also produced the championship-winning cars in 1993 (Alain Prost), 1996 (Damon Hill), and 1997 (Jacques Villeneuve).

Currently, Williams is far behind its successful times, but with Newey, the hope for a resurgence would be very real.

Team principal James Vowels confirmed to Motorsport.com that there have been discussions: “I’ve known Adrian for a while, and I spoke with him on Friday. I’m sure we’ll be speaking again soon, very shortly.”

“He is an icon of our sport. There’s no doubt about that. Every team where he has been since Williams was capable of winning the World Championship. And that’s no coincidence; it’s simply the effect he has in this sport,” Vowels praised the star designer.

Newey could very likely pick and choose from all ten Formula 1 teams, provided he is willing to adjust his salary to fit the team’s budget.

Recently, there has been a flurry of rumors about Newey potentially deciding to leave Formula 1 after this season. Reports suggest that he may be looking for more free time.

Of course, only time will tell what happens with Newey. But it is very likely that he will not be short of offers – even outside of Formula 1.
