Liverpool legend Graeme Souness is unsparing in his judgment of Mohamed Salah.
The recent dispute between Mohamed Salah and Jürgen Klopp last weekend has been hotly debated in the English media this week.
The Liverpool figures were clearly in disagreement about something when Salah was substituted in just over ten minutes before the end of the match against West Ham.
Thinking Highly of Himself
Former Liverpool player Graeme Souness doesn’t hold back when commenting on Salah’s behavior.
“Salah is the most selfish player I’ve ever seen,” says Souness on the William Hill podcast, Three Up Front.
However, he also sees positive aspects to the selfishness shown by the Liverpool star.
“You also see when Klopp substitutes him, he’s never happy about it. That’s what you want from your player. When you take them off after they’ve scored two goals, they should want to be out there scoring a third,” he said.
However, Souness clarifies that the situation that arose against West Ham was mostly due to the Egyptian.
“There’s no doubt he thinks highly of himself, and he must have been angry for not starting against West Ham last weekend. I think the situation with Klopp was a reaction to only getting ten minutes. It was more about Salah than it was Klopp in that confrontation,” Souness said.
Believes Salah Will Be Sold
Souness believes that several opponents have figured out how to take Salah out of games.
“When it gets tough and another player is tough on him, he disappears. Last season at Old Trafford, Lisandro Martinez got to him early. For the rest of the game, Salah was looking over his shoulder for Martinez. He doesn’t like that side of the game. He would never do anything that could harm him,” he said.
Now, Souness thinks Salah will leave Merseyside after the current season.
“I think Mohamed Salah is on his way out of Liverpool. He has been fantastic for the club, but if he moves to the Saudi Pro League, he will be the biggest star in that part of the world,” he concluded.
