The fighter from Guadalajara defeated Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision after 12 rounds and spoke about a possible fight against Benavidez.
Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez successfully defended his four super middleweight world titles after defeating Jaime Munguía by unanimous decision at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The fighter from Guadalajara expressed pride in the bout with his fellow countryman, highlighting that his experience kept him at the top.
“I am very happy to be able to represent Mexico and have these fights here. Two Mexicans, representing Mexico, I feel very proud […]. We know he (Munguía) throws a lot of punches, we knew he was going to give it his all, but ultimately my experience, intelligence, and way of fighting were going to prevail,” Canelo told TV Azteca.
Regarding a potential fight against David Benavidez, Alvarez spoke about taking some time but did not rule out the possibility of fighting the American if a good offer is made.
“I take my time, it’s a bit slow, but strong, I was able to counter him, that’s why I am the best. I do not consider myself the best of all time, I respect all Mexican fighters, but I am the best right now […]. I don’t know, I am going to rest, but if the money is right, I can fight right now (against Benavidez),” the fighter declared in the ring.
What did Benavidez say about Canelo Alvarez?
From Las Vegas, David Benavidez once again challenged Canelo Alvarez to arrange their fight, as the interim WBC champion asserts that he can defeat the Guadalajara native.
“I think it’s something that is affecting boxing because everyone wants this fight, it’s the biggest in boxing. We have to make it […]. I knock him out. It’s going to be a very tough fight, but I believe 100% in what I can do and I knock him out,” he declared before the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguía.
