Luis Suárez won his first trophy of this type in March. Inter Miami becomes the third club in MLS history to have two different players named Player of the Month at the start of the season.
Another award for Lionel Messi. The Argentine, who plays for Inter Miami, was chosen as the MLS Player of the Month for April.
The Argentine star played four matches in that month, scoring six goals and providing four assists. Messi’s tally of six goals was the highest for an MLS player during the month, as he led a team that finished April with a record of three wins and one loss, sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings in Major League Soccer.
Miami currently holds a record of 6-2-3 and leads the MLS in points per game (1.91), goals scored (26), and goal difference (plus 10).
Inter Miami scored 12 goals in April, with 10 of those involving Messi either through scoring or assisting. After scoring two goals and contributing one assist in Inter Miami’s 4-1 victory over New England Revolution on April 27, Messi became the first player in MLS history to record multiple goal contributions in five consecutive matches.
In total, Messi has scored nine goals, making him the top scorer in the MLS so far this season.
Additionally, the genius from Rosario took over as MLS Player of the Month from his teammate in Miami: the Uruguayan Luis Suárez, who won this award in February/March (since the 2024 season started in the second half of February, the league did not award a Player of the Month for February alone but combined it with March).
Inter Miami is the third club in MLS history to have two different players named Player of the Month at the start of the season, joining LA Galaxy in 2004 (Carlos Ruiz and Alejandro Moreno) and Kansas City Wizards (Miklos Molnar and Tony Meola).
In his career, according to SPORT, Messi has been named Player of the Month on 10 occasions – eight with FC Barcelona, one with Paris Saint-Germain, and now one with Inter Miami CF.
