The Miami Dolphins are not for sale in the NFL. This was made clear by team owner Stephen Ross, who apparently rejected a monumental purchase offer.
The majority control of the Dolphins is “not for sale,” as ESPN quotes an unnamed source. This announcement followed a report by USA Today stating that Ross had turned down a $10 billion offer to give up control over the NFL franchise, the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, and the Hard Rock Stadium.
This offer would have set new benchmarks in American sports. The highest price previously paid for an NFL team alone was six billion dollars, which the bidding consortium led by Josh Harris paid last year for the Washington Commanders.
According to the report, Ross declined in order to keep the team within his own family. His daughter Jennifer has been designated as his successor since 2022.
Ross took over the majority stakes in the Dolphins in 2009 and has since invested, among other things, $500 million for a complete reconstruction of the stadium in 2015.

He and CEO Tom Garfinkel were also the driving forces behind the relocation of the Miami Open tennis tournament to the Hard Rock Stadium and the construction of the Miami International Autodrome around the Hard Rock Stadium, where the Miami Grand Prix of Formula 1 has been held since 2022.
The Hard Rock Stadium, besides being the home of the Dolphins in the NFL, also hosts college football games – the Miami Hurricanes play their home games here, and the Orange Bowl has been held here after the regular season for some time.
Additionally, the stadium is used for concerts, hosts charity events, is a regular venue for the Super Bowl (most recently after the 2019 season), and will be one of the venues for the 2026 FIFA World Cup games.
