During the summer transfer window, Liverpool may pursue a new striker, with Victor Osimhen emerging as a potential target, according to reports.

As the summer transfer window approaches, Liverpool is reportedly in search of a new centre-forward. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport has named Napoli’s Victor Osimhen as a potential recruit for the Reds.

´This season, Darwin Nunez has been the primary choice for Jurgen Klopp in the attacking center, but team executives Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards are considering the addition of another striker. The Uruguayan has faced considerable criticism this year, and Liverpool may be looking for a top-tier centre-forward to help advance their ambitions.

While Liverpool remains a top contender in the Premier League, they have slightly lagged in the title chase. Manchester City, bolstered by the goal-scoring talent of Erling Haaland and with a game in hand, currently leads the pack.

Italian media source Corriere dello Sport (reported by Sport Witness) claims Victor Osimhen is planning to depart Napoli after this season ends, with Liverpool among the clubs showing interest in the striker, who earns £250,000 per week.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly eager, setting the stage for a potentially fierce battle for his services.

Osimhen, praised as ‘world-class’ by Folarin Balogun, has a €130m (£111m) buyout clause in his contract. PSG is reportedly the frontrunner to acquire him. It’s noted that Osimhen harbors aspirations of playing in the Premier League, a move that would also likely offer him Champions League football the following season.

Should a player of Osimhen’s stature become available at the season’s close, Liverpool is expected to be actively involved in the pursuit.

The Napoli forward, dubbed a ‘cheat code’ by his Nigerian teammate Emmanuel Dennis, has been a consistent scorer in Serie A for several years and might be the key player Liverpool needs to challenge Manchester City and Arsenal for the Premier League crown.

Earlier in the season, when asked about his future and the possibility of playing in England’s top tier, Osimhen acknowledged his interest in making such a move when the timing is right.

“Of course one day, definitely but for now, I have other plans in my career that I am looking forward to. So when the time comes, everyone knows,” he said, according to Give Me Sport.
