Anthony Davis is openly advocating for LeBron James to remain with the Lakers, presenting it as the best choice for him.
Following the Lakers’ exit from playoff contention and reports of LeBron James opting out of his player option, there might have been the final appearance of the LeBron-Anthony Davis duo.
Nevertheless, AD firmly believes there is much more they can achieve together and expressed this during his exit interview on Monday.
“I feel like we complement each other. We’ve done something special together. The good thing about it is I’m going to be with him all summer. So, we’ll have a lot of conversations and things like that,” Davis said, according to Silver Screen & Roll.
“He knows how I feel about him. He’s been in this game a long time. (He’s) in season 21, he’s been in this position a couple times to make these types of decisions.”
“If he asks my opinion whenever we talk about it, I’m obviously going to try to recruit him back. But ultimately, he’s old enough where he’s going to make a decision, whatever’s best for him and his family knowing that his time is limited in this league, only a couple more years left. His goal is, obviously, to win. I feel like we can do that here but, ultimately, it’s how he feels and what he decides.”
AD will be spending the entire summer with LeBron due to their Team USA commitment as they aim for Gold at the Paris Olympics.
Team USA has historically been a breeding ground for stars to connect and potentially form super teams. Davis is well aware of this dynamic from his 2012 Olympics experience with Team USA and plans to use this summer to encourage LeBron to stay with the Lakers.
This isn’t the first time LeBron has faced a career-defining decision under the public eye, and Davis will support his teammate no matter his choice.
For Lakers fans, the outlook is hopeful, as it appears ‘very likely’ that LeBron will re-sign with the team. However, once he opts out, he becomes completely unrestricted, leaving the door open for him to find another team more appealing and possibly move on.
Therefore, no matter how certain it seems that LeBron will return, until he officially re-signs, it’s crucial to continue persuading him to stay, and AD is fully committed to that effort.
