The FC Barcelona board is looking to find places for Ansu Fati and Clément Lenglet. The Catalan club aims to capitalize on the interest shown by several clubs in Saudi Arabia to secure the most lucrative deal possible.
Among the many tasks FC Barcelona must address over the coming months is finding places for all those players who do not fit into their future plans.
On this considerable list of discards are Ansu Fati (21 years old) and Clément Lenglet (28 years old), players who have not fully capitalized on their loan spells at Brighton and Aston Villa, respectively.
Since it seems unlikely that any European club will consider purchasing them, the Barcelona board has decided to explore opportunities in Saudi Arabia.
Although not all players who moved to the Middle East last summer have managed to adapt to the tournament, the clubs in the Saudi league continue to work on attracting new stars and have already approached both the forward and the defender.
Different perspectives
For Barca, this option is very attractive, as entities in the Saudi Pro League have demonstrated a tremendous ability to spend big.
“The priority for the Blaugrana club is to sell players who will not have space and who would fit in that league in transactions that, economically, can be very satisfying for everyone,” the newspaper Sport explains.
Logically, it remains to be seen what the mentioned players think, especially Ansu Fati who is at the beginning of his professional career and might not look favorably on the idea of heading to a much less competitive tournament with little media impact.
In the case of Lenglet, it also seems difficult, although the reality is that the Frenchman has lost a lot of cachet over the last few seasons.
