The Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has not hesitated to emphasize that he is ready to accept the offer from Carlos Alcaraz. However, one thing could stand in the way.
The dream of seeing Rafa Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz play together at the Paris Games is becoming increasingly likely. The Majorcan has shown willingness to team up in doubles with the Murcian, as the current Wimbledon champion had previously expressed.
Both have recently expressed their “excitement” about competing in the Olympic tournament. A few days ago, Alcaraz reiterated his interest, although he admitted he was still afraid to propose it to the winner of 22 Grand Slams. Nadal was also delighted with the idea.
“He doesn’t need to ask anything. Unless something unusual happens, we will play. It’s also a big thrill for me, and if I’m not mistaken, for him too, as I’ve been told. It would be nice to play some tournaments before the Olympics to prepare and get in sync on the court,” Nadal said in an interview for the Madrid Masters 1000 podcast, according to Mundo Deportivo.
“If both of us are in good shape, it would be great and we could make a strong team and aspire to achieve something beautiful. It would also be good for both of us and for the Spanish team,” Nadal added.
Nadal is hopeful that both can arrive at the right moment for the challenge and, above all, be able to play together beforehand to properly face the competition.
“We’ll see how things evolve and I hope to be up to the task and be a good partner for him. I’m sure he will be for me, and we’ll see where we can go and I hope we can work a little together beforehand,” Nadal said hours before defeating Australian Alex de Minaur at the Madrid Masters 1000.
