Lionel Messi shone in Inter Miami’s latest victory. At the same time, the star broke two new records in MLS.
Lionel Messi, aged 36, has had a brilliant start to his adventure in MLS.
On the night leading into Sunday, he impressed again, scoring two goals and providing an assist as he led Inter Miami to a 4-1 away victory against New England in the league.
Messi also made history, according to Fotbollskanalen, becoming the first player ever to contribute to 16 goals in his first seven matches of an MLS season. Additionally, he became the first to contribute to at least two goals in five consecutive matches.
Messi is now credited with eleven goals and six assists in ten matches this season. Inter Miami is currently topping the Eastern Division in MLS.
Messi seems to be happy in Miami
It appears that Messi is enjoying playing in Miami, even though it’s at a completely different level than he’s been used to.
The Argentine star moved to the USA from Europe after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired. This decision was preceded by a flurry of rumors about his potential destinations.
Among these was a wave of speculation that he was headed to Saudi Arabia, where he was reportedly offered several substantial contracts. However, he chose to turn them all down in favor of a move to Inter Miami, which is partly owned by David Beckham.
Recently, there have been rumors that he might return to Europe. Specifically, there has been speculation that he is willing to have one last stint at Barcelona before he retires.
