Victor Osimhen appears to be nearing a departure, and Napoli must begin preparations to find his successor.
According to Soccernet.ng, Napoli may consider signing former Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku as Victor Osimhen’s replacement if Antonio Conte becomes the coach this summer.
Victor Osimhen has earned widespread recognition with his standout performances for Napoli over the past two years. Last season, the Super Eagles forward netted 26 domestic goals, propelling the Partenopeans to their first Scudetto victory in over three decades.
This season, despite battling injuries, Osimhen has continued to excel, scoring 13 goals and providing three assists in 20 Serie A matches.
The Nigerian international has caught the attention of several major European clubs, and it appears he may soon depart from Napoli, even with two years remaining on his contract.
Arsenal, Chelsea, and PSG are currently leading the chase for the 25-year-old’s services, with Napoli expecting to receive up to €130 million in transfer fees. However, no deal has been finalized yet.
Should Osimhen exit, Napoli will need to secure a replacement. The choice of successor might depend on the incoming coach, as current manager Francesco Calzona is expected to depart at the season’s end, with strong speculation that Antonio Conte will assume the role.
While there is speculation about Napoli targeting Jonathan David from Lille or Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, nothing has been confirmed.
Meanwhile, Italian football expert Valter De Maggio suggests that Conte, if appointed, would likely advocate for the acquisition of Romelu Lukaku, whom he managed at Inter Milan. This move would potentially allow Napoli to secure Lukaku at a reduced price, given his previous successful partnership with Conte.
