Seventh in the Premier League after reaching the Champions League this season, Newcastle’s affluent project continues to eye the transfer market. This time, the Magpies have set their sights on an interesting target for their defense.

Newcastle’s 2-0 away loss to Crystal Palace distances the ‘Magpies’ from returning to Europe. In the second full year of Eddie Howe’s leadership of the football project, the team from the northeast of England has not managed to maintain the excellent level it showed last season.

In that regard, injuries to key players such as Sven Botman or Jamaal Lascelles have impacted the sporting performance of the ‘Magpies’.

Now, as reported by Fichajes, the affluent English club leads the bid to acquire Ousmane Diomande, an Ivorian center-back from Sporting in Portugal.

80 Million Euro Operation

The African defender has been shining in the green and white ranks, and his great performance has not gone unnoticed in the Premier League.

In fact, other teams such as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Chelsea had already shown interest in the 20-year-old player, whose release clause is set at 80 million euros.

However, according to A Bola, it would be the black and white squad that is in the lead to secure the services of Ousmane Diomande, who is expected to be one of Sporting’s major sales this summer market.

It will be a high-quality signing for Newcastle’s defense, as the club continues to shape its ambitious sporting plan.
