Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter has disclosed the replacement for Tyson Fury if he pulls out of their scheduled undisputed fight.
Oleksandr Usyk’s promoter is concerned that Tyson Fury might withdraw from their upcoming undisputed bout and has already identified a replacement should the British fighter drop out.
The highly anticipated Fury vs. Usyk fight, set to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion, is slated to occur in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in less than a month.
The original bout was scheduled for February but was postponed when Fury, often called the ‘Gypsy King,’ sustained a cut during sparring that led him to withdraw.
Alexander Krassyuk, who manages Usyk’s boxing affairs, remains skeptical about Fury showing up for the rescheduled fight on May 18. Should Fury pull out again, Usyk’s team has prepared another contender to step in.
Krassyuk has announced that Filip Hrgovic is the designated replacement to face the undefeated Ukrainian.
Although Hrgovic has a fight against Daniel Dubois scheduled for June 1, he will be ready to step into the undisputed title match if any issues arise with the current WBC champion.
“The IBF mandatory Filip Hrgovic will be the replacement if [Fury] does it again,” Krassyuk revealed, according to Sportbible.
“He is getting ready for Daniel Dubois on June 1, but instead he will have to be ready on May 18 to replace Tyson for any reason. Otherwise we will lose the [IBF] title. It was one of our conditions.
“The game is about being undisputed. It’s not about money – it’s about heritage, about glory. Tyson Fury says he doesn’t care about that, but at the press conference he was saying, ‘Wow, the IBF, the WBO, the WBC, the WBA, the Ring Magazine, the undisputed, the lineal’, which I’ve never heard of.”
