Charles Leclerc Announces Career Decision: “I Will No Longer Be There”

Charles Leclerc is among the top drivers in Formula 1. Now, the Ferrari driver has announced a career decision.

Fernando Alonso continues to amaze everyone. At the proud age of 42, he can still compete at the front in Formula 1 and has even recently extended his contract with Aston Martin.

Racing in Formula 1 into old age? However, that’s not for every driver. Charles Leclerc has now firmly rejected such a scenario, also because he has other dreams.

Leclerc Provides Insight into Career Plan

When Fernando Alonso made his F1 debut, Oscar Piastri wasn’t even born yet. Twenty-three years later, the Spaniard is still competing in the premier class of motorsport.

And despite his now advanced athletic age, he can still keep up. It is not without reason that he was linked with top teams Red Bull and Mercedes even before his contract extension.

The joy of driving is still evident in Alonso in every race. Driving into the mid-forties? It’s not desirable for every pilot. Charles Leclerc has now clearly stated that he doesn’t see himself in Formula 1 in 20 years.

“It is very likely that I will no longer be here at 43. Even though I really like Formula 1,” he revealed to Sky.

Leclerc is Attracted to the World Endurance Championship

However, it’s not early retirement that appeals so much to the Monegasque. Rather, he sees himself competing in other racing series throughout his racing career.

“I want to try something else besides Formula 1, like Le Mans,” says the 26-year-old.

Leclerc’s near future is clear. He extended his contract with Ferrari again in January 2024.

His teammate next year will also be a veteran: Lewis Hamilton is moving from Mercedes to the legendary racing team after the current season, replacing Carlos Sainz.
