Manchester United and City Make History: For the First Time in 139 Years

Manchester City and Manchester United have made history as this is the first time in 139 years that it has happened.

On Saturday, Manchester City won 1-0 against Chelsea and advanced to the FA Cup final.

On Sunday, Manchester United and Coventry played to a 3-3 draw, but United won 4-2 on penalties. Thus, they too are ready for the FA Cup final.

Manchester City and Manchester United also played in last year’s FA Cup final. The same teams meeting in consecutive FA Cup finals has not happened in 139 years.

In 1884 and 1885, Blackburn Rovers and Queen’s Park from Scotland met in two consecutive FA Cup finals. Now it’s happening again – at Wembley on May 25th.

“This is only the second time in the cup’s history that two teams have met in consecutive finals,” BBC reported this weekend.

Incidentally, Blackburn won both encounters 2-1 and 2-0. In those two finals in the 1800s, there were 4,000 and 12,500 spectators, respectively.

Last year at Wembley, there were over 83,000 attendees.

Last week was a massive disappointment as Manchester City was knocked out by Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals.

The Spanish gladiators won 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 aggregate score.

“It’s tough having to leave the Champions League in this way. But I could not be prouder of the team,” Haaland wrote on Instagram.

The greatest feat this season will likely be winning the Premier League. If they do, it will be for the fourth consecutive time. No club has ever managed that before.

And it may prove to be “an impossible record” to beat. This Thursday, Manchester City faces Brighton away. The FA Cup final on May 25th will be the season’s last match.
