Casemiro has explained his decision to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United, where he certainly has not had the same level of success as he did in Spain.
In the summer of 2022, against all odds, the Brazilian Casemiro decided to leave Real Madrid. Recently, the footballer elaborated on the reasons why he chose to move to Manchester United.
“I had won everything. It’s not that I wasn’t going to keep pushing myself, but I wanted new challenges. They didn’t let me go easily, but I wanted to learn a new language, play in another league. United has treated me very well from day one,” he explained, according to Fichajes.
“I decided to leave a little after winning the Champions League. I could see that my time at Madrid had ended, I was at a good age to leave, I wanted to continue growing. The decision was not easy at all, people really cared about me.”
During his conversation with El Chiringuito de Jugones, the player added that a meeting with Carlo Ancelotti almost changed his destiny.
“I only doubted leaving Madrid for Manchester United once. It was a Friday and everything was set. I had to train and didn’t train, only the signature was missing. I went to talk to Ancelotti and he already knew I was leaving. I entered his office, he turned around and he was crying.”
“Carlo told me he didn’t want me to go, that he cared about me a lot… and that made me doubt. At Madrid, they loved me very much, but I had already given my word to United and that’s more important than anything,” he recounted.
Due to the limited success at Manchester United, there are reports that the English club will try to sell Casemiro this summer. A potential move to Saudi Arabia could be in the cards for the Brazilian star.
