Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has stated that the competition to sign Victor Osimhen remains undecided, despite reports suggesting the Nigerian striker is nearing a deal with PSG.
It was also reported that the 2023 Serie A Footballer of the Year had secured a four-year contract with the club.
The leaders of the French league aim to recruit the Super Eagles forward as a successor to Kylian Mbappé, who is expected to move to Real Madrid, the record European champions.
Romano confirmed that both PSG and Chelsea are keen on the 25-year-old, yet they are still deliberating over intensifying their pursuit.
“We can’t exclude PSG as a solution for Osimhen. They remain interested and appreciate him. For sure, he is one of the players they like, but they have still not decided on whether to go for him in the summer or not,” Romano said on his YouTube channel, according to All Nigeria Soccer.
“The deal is not close or done now, it will take time to see what happens but PSG and Chelsea remain interested in Osimhen and the race remains open because there is a release clause no one is close to signing him now.
“So the race is absolutely open, these two clubs remain interested but at the moment it is the early stages of the story, nothing is advanced yet with any club.”
The future of the Nigerian striker seems unlikely to become clearer until the end of the season, when his potential suitors can evaluate their circumstances and decide on their summer strategies.
With a release clause approaching €130m, acquiring Osimhen would significantly impact the budgets of PSG, Chelsea, and other possible bidders, emphasizing the need for a thorough review of the squad before committing significant funds to any player.
