Much has been said and written about Chelsea’s financial concerns, but the club is reportedly not sitting still when it comes to new transfers.
The club spent nearly 500 million euros in last summer’s transfer window in an attempt to get the club back on track under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, this has not happened, and now financial experts, including Stefan Borson, believe the club can expect stricter penalties than Everton and Nottingham Forest.
Reports have also suggested that the club needs to offload some of its players, including homegrown player Conor Gallagher. However, this apparently does not stop The Blues, who are in search of a highly prolific striker.
One name consistently linked with a move to the club is Victor Osimhen from Napoli, who has been one of the most clinical finishers in Serie A in recent years.
And the usually well-informed transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano once again mentions the club’s name in connection with the Nigerian.
“I believe Chelsea will be right up there. The interest is still there. It’s very important to understand what’s happening. First of all, because of the situation around FFP, Chelsea does not want to overpay, so it’s important to know how much the entire package costs with Victor Osimhen,” Fabrizio Romano said.
“We already know about the release clause, which is around 130 million euros, but other clubs will wait and see if Napoli is more flexible, but as usual, the club’s president, De Laurentiis, is very tough to negotiate with. Especially for such a fantastic player as Victor Osimhen.”
Now, the Italian newspaper Il Mattino writes that a meeting is to be held later this week between Chelsea and Napoli. Here, the parties will try to understand if Chelsea will be able to activate the player’s release clause. Additionally, Paris Saint-Germain is also interested.
The Nigerian has scored 12 goals and provided three assists in 19 games this season and was a key player in Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season. Earlier this year, he signed a lucrative contract with Napoli, so any potential new club will likely have to surpass that.
