The London club will offer one of its key players to acquire a player that long has been a desire of the board.
Aurélien Tchouaméni was a long-sought-after target for two Premier League clubs before his move to Real Madrid in the 2022/2023 season. Chelsea and Liverpool had tried everything to sign the player while he was at Monaco but lost out to the Spanish team.
However, the London club is set to make a bold proposal to Real to have the player for the next season. According to Goal, the defender might play in England from June because Chelsea is willing to swap Reece James, plus a sum of money, for Tchouaméni.
The English club believes the deal could work since Real Madrid is looking for a successor for Carvajal and had recently made an offer for James. However, Tchouaméni is still young, and is part of the Spanish team’s long-term project. Despite needing a right-back replacement, the Madrid club is expected to be tough in letting the Frenchman go.
Moisés Caicedo might lose his place at Chelsea
The potential swap between Chelsea and Real Madrid involving Tchouaméni and Reece James is still uncertain. However, Moisés Caicedo may not benefit much from this deal.
Since arriving at the London club from Brighton last season, the Ecuadorian has not shown good football and has failed at key moments, like in the goal by Garnacho in the 4-3 comeback victory over Manchester United last Thursday.
If Caicedo’s performances do not improve and the swap between Reece James and Tchouaméni materializes, the midfielder will have a strong competitor for his position and may not stay at Stamford Bridge next season.
Klopp did everything to get Tchouaméni
Liverpool’s manager saw Tchouaméni as an ideal replacement for Brazilian Fabinho, who left the club in 2023 to play for Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia. The German made numerous calls trying to convince the Frenchman to move from Monaco to Anfield Road.
However, the sports project presented by Real Madrid was more tempting, and the defender/full-back chose to switch from France to Spain.
Over two seasons at Real Madrid, Tchouaméni played 82 games, scoring two goals, providing five assists, and winning the Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup in 2023, and the Supercopa de España in 2024.
