A Spanish newspaper describes the young Manchester City star as “a new Messi” who has been “created by Pep Guardiola.”
Phil Foden was the standout in Manchester City’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa last Wednesday in the Premier League, scoring a hat-trick.
The Englishman has reached 21 goals and 10 assists across all competitions this season, has been praised by Guardiola, and received accolades from international media.
“Foden is the most talented player I’ve ever seen in my career,” said the City coach. And the praises didn’t stop there.
According to the newspaper Marca, Foden has everything to become the 2new star” molded by Guardiola. They even compared him to Lionel Messi.
Guardiola and the Argentine made a formidable duo at Barcelona, during which time the eternal number 10 of Camp Nou established himself among the greatest in football history.
Foden’s versatility is something that caught Guardiola’s attention. According to the City manager, the Englishman “can do whatever he wants” since, in his view, he is a complete athlete.
“Playing in the center, Phil Foden scores goals and assists… He can do whatever he wants. I think he is a high-level player and we know that. Foden has an open mind, still needs to focus on some things. Sometimes, he gets distracted thinking about what to do in defense, but he has natural talent, a gift. He is special,” he continued.
“If Manchester City plays poorly, Phil Foden will continue scoring goals,” Pep concluded.
