Jürgen Klopp and Liverpool emerged as the winners, as Manchester City and Arsenal played to a 0-0 draw.
The first half was lackluster. It picked up after the break, but neither team managed to score. Erling Haaland was down with a head injury just before the end but got back on his feet.
A 0-0 draw is bad news for Manchester City. Three points behind league leader Liverpool – with nine games left – could be fatal. Arsenal is two points behind.
“We felt we were the more dangerous team, even though they had a lot of the ball. It’s a bit of mixed feelings,” says Martin Ødegaard to Viaplay, according to Dagbladet.
Liverpool has only lost two out of 29 matches. They also have 40 plus goals. Arsenal has 46 plus goals, and City 35. Brutally put: It could be over for City. Last season they won the corresponding match 4-1, setting an example in the title race.
“Liverpool is in the driver’s seat. There are still nine games left. We’ll see what happens,” says City manager Pep Guardiola.
“We take it one game at a time. We work hard, push on – and then we’ll see,” Ødegaard asserts.
After the match, Sky Sports expert Roy Keane commented on Haaland’s play:
“He’s a fantastic striker, but he needs to improve his play on the field,” says Keane.
“In front of goal, he’s the best in the world. But in play, it’s so bad.”
The game was billed as the “game of the year” in England. Arsenal had the same number of points as Liverpool, while Manchester City was one point behind.
Liverpool did their part on Sunday and beat Brighton 2-1. They now have 67 points. Arsenal has 65 points and City 64.
