Conor McGregor’s coach, John Kavanagh, thinks it’s a foolish idea for Jake Paul and Mike Tyson to fight each other. He hopes for the 57-year-old Tyson that it remains just a sparring match.
“Full-on punches to your head at 58… That’s not a good idea, no matter who you are. You just shouldn’t do that.”
The words of Kavanagh on The MMA Hour are clear. The fight is scheduled for Saturday, July 20th, and at that point Tyson will be 58 years old.
The Irish coach and former MMA fighter thus sincerely hopes it remains just a sparring match.
“Jake hits hard, he’s knocked out a few guys. So I hope it turns out to be what I think it’s going to be: a match for entertainment,” he said.
Special rules to force a knockout
Kavanagh might be disappointed, as this weekend, the rules for the fight were leaked. The rounds will last two minutes instead of three, and the gloves have been made heavier.
All of this was supposedly done to force a knockout. Only then will a winner be declared, according to those leaked rules.
Jutta Leerdam
Kavanagh is not the only one worried about the fight, which will be broadcast on Netflix. Paul’s girlfriend, Jutta Leerdam, is also nervously looking forward, but for a different reason.
Upon seeing the training footage of ‘Iron Mike,’ she was quite alarmed. “What if he knocks you out?” asked the Westland skating diva in her boyfriend’s podcast.
