The former football pro Vontae Davis has been found dead in Florida. According to initial information from the police, foul play is not suspected in the death of the 35-year-old, however, an autopsy is still to be conducted, it was stated.
Davis had played in the American professional league NFL for ten years and had participated in the Pro Bowl twice. He played a total of 121 games in the NFL.
The Miami Dolphins, who had drafted the former cornerback in 2009, expressed their shock at the death of Davis in a statement.
After three years with the Dolphins, the defensive player spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, whose owner Jim Irsay wrote in a post on the platform X that he was extremely saddened.
In 2018, Davis moved to the Buffalo Bills. However, after the second game of the season, he announced his surprising retirement.
“Reality hit me fast and hard today. I shouldn’t be out there anymore,” Davis said at the time. The Bills and the Colts also expressed their dismay at the news of his death in statements.
