Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, is said to be fixated on the prospect of bringing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes to his team.
With speculation mounting that Pep Guardiola may exit the Premier League next year, the Manchester City boss shows a keen interest in acquiring Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Guardiola, who has previously managed Barcelona and Bayern Munich, is approaching the end of his eighth season with Manchester City. During his tenure, he has captured the Premier League title five times and led the team to a Champions League victory last season, achieving a treble.
Spanish outlet Fichajes reports that Guardiola is eyeing potential signings for the summer, with a particular focus on the Brazilian international.
Newcastle United secured Guimaraes’ signature over Arsenal in the January 2022 transfer window for approximately £40 million.
Fichajes notes Guardiola’s ‘obsession’ with bringing Guimaraes to Manchester City, estimating the cost at about £85m for the Newcastle United standout.
Guimaraes is under contract with a reported £100 million release clause, and it’s believed that a record fee would be required to facilitate the transfer.
Newcastle might consider selling their top talent as they aim to achieve financial equilibrium. The club is in a position where selling players is necessary to fund new acquisitions, and Guimaraes emerges as a prime candidate for generating significant revenue.
Swedish forward Alexander Isak is also among those potentially exiting St. James’ Park post-season.
Under Eddie Howe’s guidance, Guimaraes has emerged as a key figure for Newcastle, contributing significantly to their commendable performance last season.
