The golf simulation league envisioned by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy, initially delayed by a structural collapse, is now slated for a January 2025 debut.
This innovative competition, known as TGL, will see six teams, each composed of four PGA Tour athletes, battle it out in an accelerated team-based format. The inaugural event is scheduled for January 7, airing during primetime on ESPN, from a newly constructed venue featuring a steel framework, as disclosed in the latest announcement.
Following the premiere, subsequent matches are set for January 14 and January 21. The timing is strategic, aimed at capitalizing on ESPN’s extensive coverage of the NFL and college football playoffs to maximize TGL’s visibility. TMRW Sports, a technology-driven sports venture founded by Woods and McIlroy in 2022, is at the helm of TGL. Both golf icons will participate in the league.
Mike McCarley, CEO of TMRW, emphasized the January launch as an ideal period for primetime sports, anticipating that TGL will enhance the PGA Tour season’s kickoff while leveraging ESPN’s vast promotional reach during major football events.
The state-of-the-art venue, located at Palm Beach State College in Palm Beach Gardens, boasts a 1,500-seat capacity surrounding a play area comparable in size to a football field. Players will commence from natural grass tees, engaging with digitally crafted holes displayed on an expansive screen. Approaching the green, the game transitions to physical play, concluding each hole on a versatile short game area capable of changing its layout.
This unique GreenZone employs cutting-edge technology to ensure each hole offers a distinct challenge, featuring a 41-yard-wide rotating turntable for varying green and bunker positions, and actuators beneath the green to modify its contour, promising a dynamic and immersive golfing experience.
