Vinicius Junior recently praised an English defender as the finest he has ever competed against, following their latest international friendly match.
During the game on Saturday night, Vinicius excelled for Brazil, challenging England’s defenders and leading his team to a victory at Wembley Stadium. This win marked the end of England’s 21-game unbeaten streak at home.
With just 10 minutes remaining in the match, 17-year-old Endrick scored the decisive goal. Before Endrick’s goal, Vinicius had his shot stopped by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, but the young talent quickly followed up with the rebound.
England’s defense has been fairly consistent in recent years, thanks to coach Gareth Southgate. However, there’s been some uncertainty about the left back position due to Luke Shaw’s injury.
Despite this, Vinicius singled out one English player for particular commendation, someone he has grown increasingly familiar with in recent times.
“It’s very sad,” Vinicius Junior said about Waker being substituted in the first half due to a hamstring injury, according to Daily Mail. This injury has subsequently ruled him out for Tuesday’s match against Belgium.
“We want to play against the best. Walker, I always say he’s the best defender I’ve ever faced and it’s always a very good duel.”
The duo had a brief confrontation before Walker, after 19 minutes, had to limp off the pitch and passed the captaincy to Harry Maguire. Maguire has recently made his way back to Manchester United after recovering from an injury.
During a crucial part of the match, Vinicius managed to get past Jordan Pickford, seemingly about to score for Brazil. However, Walker made a timely return to block a feeble shot from crossing the goal line.
