A UFC fighter has inadvertently disclosed the date of Conor McGregor’s comeback by mentioning he’ll be fighting on the same event’s undercard.
Cody Durden, a flyweight contender, enthusiastically shared on social media on Sunday that he is scheduled to compete in one of the UFC’s most anticipated events of the year.
“What’s up fight fans? I’m back in the Octagon June 29 versus Carlos Hernandez. UFC 303. Michael Chandler versus ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor. Let’s go, baby,” he said in a video posted on X.
Although Durden boasts nearly 20,000 followers on X, previously known as Twitter, the response from MMA enthusiasts was swift, with many flocking to his post’s comments section.
However, the focus for the 32-year-old quickly shifted as most commenters were less interested in his match and more keen to highlight that he had prematurely revealed the McGregor vs Chandler bout, overshadowing the official UFC announcement.
Durden chose not to remove the video and argued in his defense, stating that McGregor had previously disclosed his comeback date. At the start of 2024, McGregor announced his intention to return to the ring on June 29.
However, UFC President Dana White has consistently denied this timeline, and more recently, McGregor has been ambiguous about his exact return date.
Just last week, Chandler confirmed that his fight with McGregor is set, yet he declined to specify the date, opting instead to allow UFC the privilege of making the formal announcement.
It seems Durden might have inadvertently disrupted the MMA leading organization’s plans for announcing McGregor’s highly anticipated return after a three-year hiatus.
