Jabari Smith Jr. and Kris Dunn have received suspensions due to their involvement in a scuffle during the Houston Rockets’ clash with the Utah Jazz on Saturday.
Dunn faces a two-game suspension, while Smith will sit out for one game after the altercation.
Joe Dumars, the NBA’s head of basketball operations, announced on Sunday that Dunn was penalized for “initiating an altercation and throwing a punch” at Smith, who was sanctioned for his participation in the conflict.
As a result of the suspension, Dunn will forfeit $35,678, whereas Smith will be docked $53,601.
During the incident, both players attempted to land punches, but seemingly missed. They received technical fouls and were ejected from the game, which ended in a 147-119 victory for the Rockets.
The confrontation began as the two players entangled while transitioning up the court, leading to intervention from players and officials to prevent the situation from escalating further.
Dunn described the incident as a brief exchange of words and shoves before both were ejected from the game. He will observe his suspension during the Utah Jazz’s matchups against the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs on Monday and Wednesday, respectively.
Smith will miss the Houston Rockets’ encounter with the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday evening.
In his sophomore season with the Rockets, Smith is posting averages of 13.3 points and 8.5 rebounds, with a shooting accuracy of 45.2%. Dunn, who is in his eighth season and was a high draft pick, averages 5.3 points and 3.9 assists per game for the Jazz.
