Manchester United had been associated with a potential summer transfer for Sofyan Amrabat for an extended period before securing his services on a loan deal. However, it appears unlikely that the midfielder will remain with the club in the upcoming season.
Manchester United has decided against exercising the purchase option in Sofyan Amrabat’s loan agreement, with interest from Italian clubs already emerging for the Moroccan midfielder this summer.
After months of speculation last summer, Amrabat, aged 27, moved to United on loan at the transfer window’s eleventh hour. His performance at Old Trafford hasn’t met the anticipated levels.
Under Erik ten Hag’s management, Amrabat has found his opportunities limited, with only seven starting appearances in the Premier League. Post-Christmas, his playtime dwindled to a mere 24 minutes in the league, overshadowed by the rise of young talent Kobbie Mainoo.
La Nazione, an Italian news outlet, reports that United is set not to make Amrabat’s move a permanent one. This decision leaves a potential gap, as Fiorentina had initially pushed for a mandatory purchase clause in the loan agreement that brought Amrabat to Manchester.
Despite this, United negotiated a substantial loan payment in the final discussions with Fiorentina, settling on an optional purchase agreement. This has piqued the interest of AC Milan and Juventus, both keenly watching Amrabat’s situation as the summer approaches.
Il Tirreno disclosed that United had paid approximately £8.5 million for Amrabat’s seasonal loan, with a permanent transfer in the summer costing an additional £21.5 million.
