Tobiloba Amusan has opened up about how it feels to represent her country after participating at the 13th African Games.

Tobiloba Amusan, the world record holder in the 100m hurdles, expressed that competing in the 13th African Games, which concluded the day before yesterday in Accra, Ghana, is both an honor and a privilege.

Known affectionately as Tobi Express, she secured two gold medals, one of which was in the 4x100m relay during the third day of the athletics events.

“I run for a living, and this is a national assignment. I see no reason why I shouldn’t be here. I don’t know why people expect me to choose the competitions that I need to compete,” she told AFN Media in Accra, according to Guardian.

“I compete when it’s time to compete and I am representing myself, Nigeria and Africa as a whole,” she added.

Amusan clinched the gold medal in the women’s 100m Hurdles final with a time of 12.89 seconds, surpassing Sidonie Fiadanantsoa who came in second with 13.19 seconds, and Zimbabwe’s Ashley Tinashe Kamangirirain who secured third place with a time of 13.59 seconds.

She received a yellow card for a false start, attributed to the noise from the spectators in the stadium.

This triumph in Accra marked Amusan as the first athlete to win three consecutive gold medals in the high hurdles at the African Games, following her victories in the previous two editions held in Congo Brazzaville and Rabat, Morocco.

Additionally, Amusan played a pivotal role in leading the Team Nigeria Athletics women to a gold medal win in the 4×100m relay.
