Victor Osimhen is anticipated to depart Napoli this summer as multiple major clubs have shown interest in him. Among these clubs, one is reportedly ready to pay his substantial release clause.
Despite concerns about violating Premier League Profit and Sustainability regulations, Chelsea is keen on activating the release clause for 35-cap Nigerian international Victor Osimhen.
As reported by Caughtoffside, citing Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, the Stamford Bridge outfit is prepared to meet Napoli’s release clause for Osimhen, estimated between €120m and €130m.
Furthermore, the report mentions that the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer is eager for a switch to Chelsea, offering a boost to the London club’s aspirations.
Previous worries about Chelsea’s financial capability to secure Osimhen’s signature sparked speculation that the club would need to offload players before pursuing a high-profile acquisition like the Nigerian striker.
Despite last summer’s investment in their offensive lineup, the Blues have faced challenges in finding the back of the net, impacting their Carabao Cup campaign and potentially jeopardizing their participation in European competitions for another year.
Although Osimhen is not expected to end the Serie A season as the top scorer, trailing the current leading scorer by 12 goals, his prowess positions him among Europe’s elite forwards.
The 25-year-old was originally selected for Nigeria’s squad for the matches against Ghana and Mali in March but withdrew due to fitness concerns.
