The Norwegian tennis player Casper Ruud launched a harsh attack against the organizers of the Miami Open regarding his match against the Frenchman, Luca van Assche.
During his match on Saturday evening, trailing 3-0 against the Frenchman, Norwegian player Casper Ruud’s frustrations were visibly apparent as he directed all his criticism towards the match umpire.
“There are no towels, no cold water, and just a plastic chair to change on. It’s a complete joke,” said Casper Ruud about the conditions at the Miami Open.
“It’s all because the tournament is too stingy to provide properly for the players. The players come here to put on a show for thousands of spectators, and then we are treated like this.”
Ruud emphasized to the umpire that it wasn’t his fault, but he urged the umpire to relay the criticism to the ATP. “Every time the players complain, nothing happens,” Ruud told the umpire.
“There’s a trailer with nothing but a plastic chair to change on. They could at least provide towels and cold water for the players’ well-being.”
Despite his significant frustrations, Ruud managed to secure his spot in the next round of the tournament with a victory of 7-6, 1-6, 6-1.
The victory secured him a spot in the third round, where he faced the Spanish player Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. He won this match in straight sets with scores of 6-3, 6-4. In his next match, he will play against Nicolas Jarry, who is ranked number 28 in the world.
