Manchester City could face significant repercussions if the club is found guilty of numerous charges by the Premier League. They are accused of a wide range of financial rule violations.
A potential forced relegation from the Premier League is being discussed for Manchester City, should the club be found guilty of the 115 charges from the Premier League regarding financial misconduct.
This assessment comes from Keith Wyness, the former CEO of Everton.
“For the first time, I’ve noticed the term forced relegation being mentioned in relation to the Nottingham Forest hearing. City must also take note of it for the first time,” Wyness told Football Insider.
“We don’t know yet, and they have the right to defend their case, but forced relegation seems to be on the table due to the seriousness of this case. We still need to see the evidence, and we need to see it soon.”
Manchester City’s case has garnered more attention this season, following point deductions given to Everton and then Nottingham Forest for lesser rule breaches.
Last February, City was charged with more than 100 rule violations over an extended period, starting in 2009.
The club faces a substantial points penalty or even possible forced relegation from the tournament if found guilty. However, The Cityzens deny the charges and are defending their case. The duration of the process is uncertain, but it is rumored to take several years.
Manchester City achieved The Treble last season, ultimately surpassing Arsenal to claim their fifth Premier League title in six years. This success was complemented by an FA Cup final victory and a win over Inter in the Champions League final.
Off the field, the club has also grown significantly, setting a revenue record last year.
