Everything indicates that Napoli must wave goodbye to Victor Osimhen this summer. Therefore, the Italian club is forced to buy a replacement in the summer transfer window.
Ex-AS Roma sensation Davide Bombardini has recommended Nigeria-eligible forward Joshua Zirkzee as a potential successor to Super Eagles frontman Victor Osimhen at Napoli.
Nigerian forward Osimhen has distinguished himself as one of the top strikers globally over the past two years. His significant contribution of 26 goals last season was instrumental in Napoli’s Serie A victory, earning him the distinction of being the first African to clinch the Capocannoniere.
Despite a slowdown this season largely due to injuries, Osimhen still boasts a respectable tally of 13 goals in 24 matches across all competitions.
The 25-year-old’s impressive showings have attracted attention from some of Europe’s elite clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, and PSG. Yet, Napoli has been reluctant to release him.
With Osimhen’s contract winding down and his expressed interest in playing in the Premier League, his departure from Napoli seems increasingly likely.
Napoli faces the challenge of finding a suitable replacement should Osimhen depart, especially with Giovanni Simeone’s performance still under evaluation.
In this context, Bombardini, who carved out a notable career in Italy, sees Bologna’s Zirkzee as a fitting choice for Napoli’s frontline.
“Zirkzee is a player worth certain amounts, now I don’t know if 40 or 50 million will be enough to sign him, but next summer, transfer market will tell us,” Bombardini said, according to Napoli Magazine.
“When I saw him at the start, he was only missing a goal, and in my opinion, he can become Osimhen’s replacement. He is a player with a future, an investment can still grow a lot.”
