Lewis Hamilton criticized the apparent absence of responsibility within motorsport on Thursday, expressing his support for Susie Wolff, who has initiated legal proceedings against the FIA.
Susie Wolff, who oversees Formula 1’s academy series aimed at nurturing female driving talent, disclosed on Wednesday that she has filed a criminal complaint in France regarding a contentious investigation into her actions last year.
The investigation focused on Wolff and her spouse, Toto Wolff, the team principal for Mercedes in Formula 1, over potential conflict of interest concerns.
This scrutiny was triggered in December by a magazine article suggesting that Toto Wolff might be gaining from insights shared by his wife, leading to unease among other team principals.
However, the FIA concluded its examination merely two days after its compliance department began probing the allegations.
Both the Formula 1 organization and Mercedes have vehemently denied these claims and have voiced their dissatisfaction with how the FIA managed the investigation.
“I’m incredibly proud of Susie, she is so brave and stands for such great values, she is such a leader,” Hamilton said ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, according to Flashscore.
“In a world where often people are silent, for her to be standing up sends such a great message and I love that she is taking it out of this (F1) world, because there is a real lack of accountability within the sport and the FIA.
“Things happen behind closed doors, there is no transparency, there really is no accountability.”
