There could be bad news for Anthony Joshua, who earlier this month made quick work of a fight against Francis Ngannou.
Anthony Joshua’s ambition to secure the world heavyweight championship for the third time seems to have encountered an obstacle.
His victory by knockout in the second round against Francis Ngannou earlier this month positioned Joshua for a world title bout. There was anticipation that Joshua would compete against the victor of the undisputed heavyweight title bout between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. However, a rematch is expected, a common occurrence for high-profile fights.
Joshua had another potential path to the world heavyweight championship by fighting Filip Hrgovic, the IBF mandatory challenger. The governing body was reportedly prepared to strip the winner of the Fury vs. Usyk fight on May 18 of their title.
Nonetheless, according to statements from Ronnie Shields, Hrgovic’s coach, the Croatian’s next opponent will be a British boxer, but it won’t be the Olympic gold medal winner.
“We have just found out that Hrgovic is going to fight on June 1st and it is supposed to be against Daniel Dubois,” Shields told W.A.W Boxing.
ChatGPT Hrgovic and Dubois both secured knockout victories against Mark De Mori and Jarrell Miller, respectively, during the “Day of Reckoning” event in Riyadh.
