Tyson Fury has expressed a surprisingly bold viewpoint on the bout between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul.
This matchup has stirred controversy within the boxing community, pitting a 58-year-old iconic former heavyweight champion against a YouTuber who has transitioned into boxing and is nearly three decades his junior.
Furthermore, this event marks the first time a live sporting event will be streamed on Netflix, scheduled to occur in Texas this summer. The format, whether it will be an exhibition with headgear or a fully judged professional match, remains undisclosed.
In his most recent bout, Paul secured a first-round knockout victory over Ryan Bourland and has previously faced competitors like Nate Diaz and Tommy Fury.
Tyson returned to the ring for an exhibition match in 2020, long after retiring from professional boxing in 2005 following two consecutive defeats. He had achieved fame as the youngest world heavyweight champion in history.
In a conversation with the Stomping Ground, Fury, who recently suggested that Deontay Wilder is preparing for a significant fight, voiced his enthusiastic support for the event.
“I think it’s fantastic for boxing. You’ve got a legend in Mike Tyson, and a YouTube boxer who’s come into the game and blown it up with millions of followers and millions of eyes,” he said, according to Boxing Social.
“Good bad or indifferent, some people love him, some people hate him, I think it’s a very good spectacle, it brings a lot of people to the game. Who am I to say they should be boxing? Good luck to them, they’re both going to make a s***ton of money so isn’t that what it’s about?!”
