Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has pointed to one specific player as ‘by far the most underrated player in existence’.
Thierry Henry has identified Atletico Madrid and French national team forward Antoine Griezmann as ‘the most underappreciated player alive.’
Griezmann has established himself as Atletico Madrid’s leading scorer, netting 176 goals, and played a pivotal role in France’s 2018 World Cup victory at 32 years of age.
However, Henry contends that Griezmann’s contributions throughout his career have not been fully acknowledged.
“We must not forget Griezmann, who reminds us that hard work is a talent. Griezmann is by far the most underrated player in existence,” Henry told Le Parisien, according to Metro.
“We often talk about Kylian, so much so that I am even in favor of abusing him. But Griezmann… look at his passes and his goals. Tell me who in history could play all four offensive positions like him? There aren’t many… Grizou is one of them!”
This week, Griezmann joined the French national team for international duties, but he will miss the friendlies against Germany and Chile due to an ankle injury. This marks the end of his impressive streak of 84 consecutive appearances for Les Bleus.
Didier Deschamps, the head coach of France, remarked that while Griezmann is not impossible to replace, he plays a crucial role in the team, especially with the Euro 2024 campaign approaching this summer.
Deschamps noted the unique attributes Griezmann brings to the team, acknowledging that finding a direct replacement with similar qualities is extremely challenging. He suggested that the team would need to adapt their strategy in Griezmann’s absence.
