Nikola Jokic has openly expressed his opinion on the matter, firmly believing that the Mavericks’ star is truly ‘deserving’ of the MVP award.

This NBA season presents a captivating competition for the MVP award, with numerous deserving contenders vying for the title. A range of players have burst onto the scene, drawing national attention for their impressive performances.

Notably, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander from the Oklahoma City Thunder and Jalen Brunson from the New York Knicks have made significant impacts. Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, leading a team that has dominated the league, is also in the running for the accolade.

A key matchup took place on Sunday, featuring a showdown between two MVP frontrunners: Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, a two-time MVP, and Luka Doncic, a consistent MVP candidate, from the Dallas Mavericks.

The Mavericks clinched a narrow victory over the Nuggets, 107-105, thanks to a dramatic left-handed buzzer-beater by Kyrie Irving. Doncic shone brightly in the game, contributing 37 points, securing 10 rebounds, and adding three assists and two steals to his performance.

Following the match, Jokic offered high praise for his rival, endorsing Doncic as the rightful recipient of the MVP award for the 2023-24 NBA regular season.

“I think he deserves the MVP, 100 percent. But it’s not my decision, to be honest,” Jokic said of Doncic, according to Yardbarker.

Doncic has consistently placed within the top eight in MVP voting across four consecutive seasons, with his highest achievement being a fourth-place finish in the 2019-20 season.

Should the Mavericks embark on a successful surge in the standings towards the season’s end, his ranking could potentially climb even higher.
