Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who owns 27.7% of Manchester United, does not think it’s a good idea to sign Kylian Mbappe.
There’s bad news for Manchester United fans, especially for those who dreamt of seeing French superstar Kylian Mbappe in a Red Devils jersey.
It seems highly unlikely to happen following recent comments from Manchester United owner Jim Ratcliffe on Geraint Thomas’ Cycling Club podcast.
“I’d rather buy the next Mbappe than spend a fortune buying success. It’s not wise to buy Mbappe, everyone can see that. It’s more exciting to find the next Jude Bellingham or Roy Keane,” said the British billionaire.
In 2019, Jim Ratcliffe was the wealthiest person in England but has since been surpassed by 84-year-old Gopi Hinduja. It’s estimated that Jim Ratcliffe’s net worth is close to 30 billion pounds, equivalent to 261 billion kroner, so he certainly could afford to bring the French world star to Manchester United if he wanted.
Manchester United’s most expensive signing was in 2016 when they brought Paul Pogba back to the club for 105 million euros, equivalent to nearly 800 million kroner.
It seems highly likely that Mbappe will continue his career at Real Madrid. There have even been reports suggesting the French star has already signed a contract with the Spanish giants.
PSG has reportedly been eager to retain their biggest star, but it has proven impossible. As a result, they have started looking for a suitable replacement, leading them to consider Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
