While on international duty with Norway, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland exited the training session limping on Tuesday, and the team’s doctor has since provided an update.
The physician for the Norwegian team has assured that Erling Haaland is “fine” despite the Manchester City forward leaving a training session with a limp on Tuesday.
Concerns about the 23-year-old’s fitness arose after he was replaced during the second half of the match against Newcastle on Saturday. However, Pep Guardiola, in his post-match briefing, minimized these concerns and advised his squad to exercise caution during the two-week international hiatus.
“He is not my player anymore from now on, what they will decide will be fine,” Guardiola said.
“They know that they fought a lot and train a lot, a lot of adrenaline and concentration to arrive in this position. They know they are friendly games and they have to handle it wisely. Hopefully they can do it.”
Concerns about Erling Haaland’s condition emerged after he appeared to be in discomfort during a training session with his Norwegian teammates. The forward had to stop training prematurely, having apparently experienced pain after taking a shot on goal, and subsequently left the pitch with a limp.
However, the situation does not seem as dire as initially feared. In a conversation with TV2, the Norwegian team’s physician emphasized that Haaland is “fine,” indicating his likely participation in the upcoming international fixtures. Norway is set to play friendly matches against the Czech Republic and Slovenia within the next week.
Despite this, Haaland will enjoy a longer break during the summer since Norway did not secure a spot in Euro 2024 in Germany. Under the guidance of Stale Solbakken, the team ended up third in their qualifying group, missing out on this summer’s competition, though they have planned two friendlies in June.
Pep Guardiola is keenly hoping that Haaland will return from the international break without any injuries, especially considering Manchester City’s packed schedule following the break.
